Well here is the first piece of good anime news for the new year!!!!! Recently Media Blasters, the company behind such popular anime series such as Genshiken, Rurouni Kenshin, Bakuman and many others has announced that they are going to re-releasing  the first season of the popular animated series Fushigi Yugi: The Mysterious Play this April.

While no other information has been released as to when the box set will be published, it is understood that the new box set will be more affordable than the original box sets that were originally released by Pioneer\Geneon back in the early 2000’s for around $200!!!!!

Personally, I have been waiting for another company to re-release this series for a while now. I wanted to buy the original box sets but they were too expensive. Hopefully, more fans of this series will be able to afford to pick this up. So thank you Media Blasters, you totally kick some major A**!!!!!

And in an un-related story, I was just able to obtain the first two volumes of Batgirl (The New 52) from DC Comics from a great comic book website known as Lonestar Comics!!!!! Lonestar Comics is a great place to find new, rare and hard to find comics including hard to find issues of “The New 52”. I already have volumes three and four in my possession and with volume 5 being released this month, I plan on giving you guys my first impressions of the series within the next few weeks.

Have I got some interesting news to share with you all. For those of you who are fans of the video game series Persona, hang on to your seat for what I have to tell you.

It has been recently announced that The Anime Network will be streaming the new Persona 4 anime series on their site starting next Thursday (October 6) at 3:00pm EST right after the episodes air in Japan. The episodes will be available to view on the site absolutely free. The series will also be available on Hulu and Hulu Plus twenty four hours after they are posted on the Anime Network website.

It has also been announced that Sentai Filmworks will be releasing the series on DVD and Blu-Ray sometime next year. No official date has been set.

Have I managed to come across a very interesting story for Breaking News In Anime today. Now for you male readers who enjoyed the popular anime series Sailor Moon, have I got news for you. It has been recently announced that the popular pop culture clothing retailer Hot Topic will be selling the popular Sailor Moon t-shirts in select stores and on-line via their website in the coming months.

Hot Topic states that the men’s design will be similar to one of the designs as the girls shirts but they will be more firm-fitting to a mans size. Newer styles will be added in the coming months to meet demand.

I know that it has been a few weeks since I have updated AFC, but with my new job, looking for more work and taking a medical terminology course online, it has been one crazy summer for me so far. However, I do have some interesting news to report and a quick update of what’s to come. But enough chit chat, let get to the breaking news.

Media Blasters, the company that brought you such great titles as Genshiken, Kujibiki Unbalance and Dojin Work has recently announced that it has obtained the rights to seasons one and two of the popular anime series Bakuman. Currently, Media Blasters plans to release the first seven episodes of season one this November. The second season of the series will be airing on Japanese television this fall. The show’s manga counterpart which is distributed by Viz Media currently has five volumes available in English translation.

And now on to other business, recently I have just launched the sister site for AFC entitled AFC Gaming Zone. If you want to learn more about it, click on the link below to see more. Also, I have some reviews that are going to be posted in the next few weeks including volume one of the new Phoenix Wright manga and my first ever Japanese Movie Review in which I will be looking at the popular psycho\gothic feature film “Psycho Gothic Lolita” and trust me, you will be shocked at what you will learn about this Japanese cult classic.

Here is some interesting news for fans of Neon Genesis Evangelion that is not related to Eva 2.0 being released in three weeks (March 29, 2011).

According to Kadokawa Shoten publishers of Young Ace magazine, popular anime character creator Yoshiyuki Sadamoto will resume publishing the manga version of Neon Genesis Evangelion after a fourteen month hiatus. The next edition of the manga will be features in Young Ace magazine in their April 4th issue. Sadamoto had place the manga version of the anime on hiatus since last February and stated that he would resume publication this past winter. Currently, Viz Media has recently published volume twelve of the manga series.

Now for those of you who are fans of Kia Asamiya works such as Steam Detectives, Silent Mobius, and Dark Angel, have I got some news for you.

Mr. Asamiya has recently announced that he is launching a new manga series entitled Himegami Gadget on the Comix Next website on January 25. This new work revolves around a young man named Eiji who is a third year student at a prestigious technical school. But while he was on his way back from doing a simple errand, he notices a strange voice coming out from his car. Now to prevent spoilers for those of you who are interested in reading this series, I won’t go into what happens next.

Now for those of you who have been dying to see new episodes of Full Metal Alchemist: Brotherhood on Adult Swim? Well your wait is finally over. Cartoon Network’s Adult Swim block has recently released their January programming schedule in which new episodes of FMA: Brotherhood beginning on Sunday January 9th with episode 27 entitled “Interlude Party” at 1:00am and will continue at that time slot up to Episode 31 entitled “The 520 Cens Promise”.

It is currently unknown if the episodes after episode 31 will air on Adult Swim, but episodes 27 thru 39 are already available in the iTunes music store and other venues such as Hulu and YouTube. For those of you who are fans of the anime and manga series xxxHolic, have I got some news for you. Dell Ray Publishing has recently announced that it will resume publishing the popular manga series. This will also include the sister series Tsubassa, RESERVoir CHRoNiCLE. The last volume of xxxHolic (Vol. 16) was recently published in October while the final volume of Tsubassa (Vol. 28)was released last month.

Del Ray has also announced that it will continue publishing other series until their license agreements expire in the next two years while publishing their own manga series.

Well have I got some interesting news for those of you who are a little strapped for cash to buy anime DVD’s. Recently, Media Blasters has announced that it will launch a series of video rental kiosks which will feature mostly anime DVD and Blue-ray discs!!!!! Rentals will range from $1 to $2 dollars per disc. Users of this service will also have the option to buy the disc’s to add to their personal collection by going to the Media Blasters website. The kiosks will feature various titles from all of the major anime studios such as Funimation, Viz Media, Bandai Entertainment and Sentai Filmworks among others.

Currently Media Blasters is rolling out it’s first kiosk in New York City (Image Anime Store, 242 West 30th Street) and it plans to roll out one hundred more kiosks across the United States during the next eighteen months.

Overall this sounds like a good idea for those of us who are a little strapped for cash and who want to get their anime fix without breaking the bank. Hopefully I will get to see one here in the states

Now for those of you who were wondering if the popular anime and manga series Genshiken was going to continue after the manga and the anime series had come to an end? Well have I got some news for you!!!!!

It has been recently announced Japan’s Monthly Afternoon magazine has recently obtained the rights for the new Genshiken manga entitled “Genshiken Nidaime or Genshiken II) for short. The new manga will feature current Genshiken president Ogiue managing the new group of students who joined “The Society For The Study Of Modern Visual Culture” and Hato the cross-dressing boy will also be featured.

It is currently known that the new manga will begin publication later on this year. Hopefully we will get to see this in the states sometime in the near future.
